The MTV Video Music Awards have decided to have a host for this year’s award show, and the network has tapped Sebastian Maniscalco to lead the award ceremony. Maniscalco announced the news himself during a Tuesday night appearance on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. He also announced that he’s a dad, again, which Fallon found to be a lot more exciting.
Maniscalco will host the 2019 “VMAs” live from the Prudential Center in Newark, NJ on Monday, August 26th. Sebastian just keeps getting hotter and hotter, selling out every venue he books including Madison Square Garden. He will perform this August as part of Lucyfest in Jamestown, New York, part of the new National Comedy Center festival.
“It’s huge,” Maniscalco said of the opportunity. “MTV wants an unfiltered look at the VMA’s through my eyes,” he told Fallon on the Tonight Show, although his family thinks he’s in trouble because he knows nothing about music.
From his early days performing at open mics to a historic sold out run at Madison Square Garden, Maniscalco has earned his place as one of the top comics in the world. He was the 2018 Billboard “Comedian of the Year” and was included on Forbes’ 2017 and 2018 list of “The World’s Highest Paid Comedians.” In 2018, he published his best-selling memoir Stay Hungry, followed by the successful Stay Hungry tour, with five sold-out shows at New York’s iconic Radio City Music Hall, which is now streaming on Netflix. Additionally, he has appeared in numerous films, including the Oscar-winning Green Book. He can next be seen in Martin Scorsese’s highly anticipated The Irishman with Robert DeNiro, Al Pacino and Joe Pesci. Maniscalco is touring throughout 2019 with tickets to his North American You Bother Me tour on sale now.
Catch Maniscalco on NBC’s “TODAY with Hoda & Jenna” this Friday, June 28, talking 2019 VMAs, fatherhood, his new fall tour You Bother Me and more.
