Saturday Night Live Announces New Castmember, Four New Writers

With Luke Null in the rearview, there’s room for one new featured player on the Saturday Night Live cast.  Enter Ego Nwodim, one week before the season premiere, as the iconic series newest member.

An actress, improv artist and UCB alum, originally from Baltimore, Nwodim will be moving cross country from her Los Angeles home to join the cast. She might be the first Saturday Night Live featured player to say she has a degree in biology- she earned that from the University of Southern California. In 2016 Nwodim held one of the coveted Just for Laughs New Faces: Characters spots. Podcast fans have also heard her on “Comedy Bang! Bang!”, “Why Won’t You Date Me” with Nicole Byer, UCB’s “Long Form Conversations”, “Hollywood Handbook” and “Spontaneanation!” with Paul F. Tompkins. She also has a one woman show called “Great Black Women … and Then There’s Me,” and plenty of acting credits including “2 Broke Girls” and “Living Biblically” and NBC limited drama series
Law & Order True Crime: The Menendez Murders.”

Alan Linic, Alison Gates, Eli Mandel and Bowen Yang will join the Season 44 team as writers. Three out of the four hail from Chicago, Alan Linic and Alison Gates are Second City alums, and Eli Mandel comes out of Chicago’s i0 Theater. You already know Yang as one half of the podcasting sensation Las Culturistas.
