So why is Rutgers standing with Tim Pernetti as faculty and politicians call for his ouster? It may have something to do with the deal he made to move to the Big Ten. According to Forbes, Rutgers currently receives $6m from the Big East; they will soon leave for the Big Ten which pays out $24.6m per school. And considering adding the Tri-State market (and Maryland’s Mid-Atlantic) could drive the Big Ten Network’s cable revenues to $225m, that slice could be a lot thicker.
And that’s probably why Pernetti is not only still gainfully employed, but the Rutgers Athletics official Twitter account (and Pernetti himself) is following a “Keep Tom Pernetti” account.
