Ricky Gervais Starts Online Backlash Against Giraffe Hunter
If you’re going to post a photo online of a giraffe you hunted and killed, beware. It could get animal lover Ricky Gervais’ attention. This is what happened to Rebecca Francis. Gervais tweeted a photo he found online of Francis smiling and lying next to a giraffe she had hunted down. Along with the photo, he added the comment, “What must’ve happened to you in your life to make you want to kill a beautiful animal & then lie next to it smiling?” This started an online attack against her that has included death threats, hopes that she’s killed by animal or gets sick and questions about her mental state. According to the Daily Mail, Gervais’ comment had been retweeted nearly 15,000 times so far.
Rebecca Francis has posted several photos online of herself with her hunting trophies. She was the winner of the reality show “Extreme Huntress” in 2010. Yeah, that’s a real show. Ricky Gervais is a major animal rights advocate. The comedian was named PETA’s Person of the Year in 2013. He’s spoken out against fox hunting, bullfighting and poaching the endangered rhino.
