Richard Engel is Missing in Syria; NBC News Enforces News Blackout

According to Turkish news reports, NBC News chief foreign correspondent Richard Engel has gone missing in Syria. There are reports that NBC News has successfully kept Engel’s status subject to a news blackout for a least the past 24 hours. The Turkish newspaper Hurriyet is reporting that Engel and a Turkish journalist, Aziz Akyvavas, have not been in contact with NBC News since Thursday morning. NBC News is asking all reporters to participate in the blackout and declines to comment for the record about Engel’s whereabouts.
