Word from Aaron Swartz’s lawyer is that he was close to getting a plea deal which would of required only probation for Aaron, but MIT refused any deal that didn’t have him doing time. They insisted he’d have to plead guilty to 13 felony charges and spend 6 months in prison. Swartz went through three lawyers while waiting to go to trial, his last was confidant they would win if it went before a jury.
