Palace Malice Takes The Belmont Stakes
There’s three legs in the Triple Crown and this year, three different horses won each of them. Palace Malice (15 -1) took the Belmont Stakes on Saturday. Preakness winner Oxbow finished second and this year’s Kentucky Derby winner, Orb finished third. Palace Malice paid $29.60 on a $2 bet to win.
In case you were wondering here were Saratoga Chick’s Picks
Race 7 (True North-Grade II)
Sage Valley, coupled entry Justin Phillip/Fast Bullet & last year’s True North champ, Caixa Electronica are gonna take boatloads of action. Good. That means my pick, mudder/fodder bred, Reload should go off at a big, sloppy price. Two runaway wins since the 3 month layoff has the Phipps Stable and the little man who lives in my gut thinking good thoughts. Even money I’ll be half loaded before load time.
- $5 Win/Place ($10 bet):
#3 Reload (6-1)
- $1 exacta box (3 horses = $6 bet):
#3 Reload (6-1)
#5 Caixa Electronica (7-2)
#6 Sage Valley (3-1)
Race 8 (Just A Game-Grade I)
‘Who knows’ if this stays on the grass. One thing’s for sure: I’ll be on the grass. A nutbustingly tough race. The sire ratings say three of these broads love it soft…turf conditions, that is. Here’s how I’ll be betting them.
- $10 Win ($10 bet):
# 1 Hungry Island (4-1)
- $1 exacta box: (3 horses = $6)
#1 Hungry (4-1)
#2 Stephanie’s Kitten (5/2)
#3 Centre Court (3-1)
Race 9 (Woody Stephens-Grade II)
I always obey Charles Bukowski’s two golden rules re 7 panel sprints:
1 – Never (win) bet a runner coming off a 45+ day layoff;
2 – Never (win) bet a runner without a win/good try at the distance
I like everything I see about Declan’s Warrior other than his deep closing, heart attack finishes.
Caveat bettor: Deep closers usually suck the big one in Belmont ‘wet track’ sprints.
- $5 Win/Place ($10 bet):
#1 Declan’s Warrior (8-1)
- $1 exacta box: (3 horses = $6)
#1 Declan’s Warrior (8-1)
#7 Forty Tales (5-1)
#9 Clearly Now (8-1)
Race 11 (Belmont Stakes-Grade I)
Before the day is done, how much ya wanna bet you’ll hear, “Wouldn’t it be something if the fillie (Rosie ‘Button Ass’ Napravnik) wins this thing on a fillie (Unlimited Budget)? I hope to God Rosie/Budget get pounded at the windows. The only way I’ll consider sticking Rosie’s bitch in my boxed exotics is if she rides topless.
- $20 Win: ($20 bet)
#9 Revolutionary (9-2)
I’d shoot myself if my favorite tamale, Javier Castellano, copped this without me.
- $1 exacta box: (3 horses = $6)
#2 Freedom Child (8-1)
#5 Orb (3-1)
#9 Revolutionary (9-2)
- $1 superfecta: (4 horses = $24)
#2 Freedom Child (8-1)
#5 Orb (3-1)
#9 Revolutionary (9-2)
#14 Golden Soul (10-1)
Total bets = $98
