The KFC marketing plan just jumped one notch up on the weird and confusing ladder.
If you watch the BBC show Humans, then during last night’s season finale you watched Norm Macdonald make his very weird debut as the new KFC spokesperson only months after Darrel Hammond signed on to portray the cackling Colonel Sanders in May. Norm shows up in full Colonel Sanders regalia, claiming to be the REAL Sanders, and that the other Sanders was just an imposter.
KFC is obviously aiming for odd, even their press release sounds nutty. “Other than not quite looking like him, his voice being different, and his inability to cook the world’s best chicken, we thought Norm was the perfect choice to play the Real Colonel. I think the fans will agree.” says Kevin Hochman, chief marketing officer KFC US.
No word on why– or even if — Hammond was replaced, but the first couple ads have had Norm clarifying that he is the real Colonel Sanders and Hammond was an impostor.
Hopefully this madness will be stopped at two Colonels but if there have to be more, we’re calling for Colin Quinn or Kristin Wiig.
