This Sunday, November 2nd, comedians are coming together in Peoria, Illinois to honor comic legend and hometown son, Richard Pryor. “A Night For Richard” will be a benefit to raise funds for a Richard Pryor statue to be raised in the place where he was born.

The benefit comedy performance will be held at the Peoria Civic Center and the night stars an amazing cast of talent including Cedric the Entertainer, D.L. Hughley, Eddie Griffin, Mike Epps and George Lopez who organized the fundraising tribute show.  “A Night For Richard” hopes to raise the money to complete the seven and a half foot tall statue which will stand as the gateway to Peoria’s developing Warehouse District. The city hopes to unveil the statue by the end of year.

“The statue, it was started and Richard and Jennifer picked Preston Jackson, the sculptor, and then it ran out of money and it stalled out. It’s been undone. And you know, as a Mexican man, I can’t leave some work undone. We never leave anything undone,” Lopez told Ron Bennington today on SiriusXM’s Ron and Fez Show.

All of the comedians performing at Sunday’s benefit show feel a special connection to Richard Pryor. Especially Mike Epps who recently won a casting battle to play Pryor in the upcoming biopic directed by Lee Daniels.
