What Did You Miss on Saturday Night Live This Week? Donald Glover Proves He Could Have Done It! Plus Martin Short, Jimmy Fallon, Ben Stiller, ScarJo, and Stormy Round Out Star Studded Episode

Last night Donald Glover hosted Saturday Night Live for the first time, and he devoted his monologue to letting the audience know he auditioned for the iconic sketch show- twice- only to be rejected- twice.  Last night he proved to Lorne, the Saturday Night Live cast and fans everywhere that he would have been a great addition to the cast, delivering one of the best episodes of Season 43.

Before Glover charmed America with his monologue, the stars came out for a Trump-verse cold open filled with great guest appearances. The setup: Ben Stiller reprised his role as Trump’s personal lawyer, Michael Cohen trying to place a call to his Presidential client, but he’s too stupid to understand the situation he is in, and also too stupid to handle a simple phone call, so he ends up talking to a list of other Trump friends and family including a hilarious cameo by Martin Short as Trump’s odd doctor- Dr. Harold N. Bornstein, Kate McKinnon as a frightening Rudy Giuliani, Jimmy Fallon as Jared, ScarJo in her role as Ivanka, and of course all the regular familliar faces.  Martin Short’s appearance should have been the most memorable moment of the open, but what America will remember was Stormy Daniels making her SNL debut, as Stormy Daniels.

The sketches were some of the most creative and funniest we’ve seen all season, exhibiting a wide range of silliness, originality, smart commentary, and great writing. Glover was charming and funny, brought Star Wars starpower, and Atlanta brilliance. And he performed as the musical guest debuting two new singles- his first since his Grammy winning 2016 album. Watch the episodes from start to finish, everyone was on their game. But if you’re short on time, here are our top 5 sketches and shorts, from bottom to top.

#5 80’s Music Video with Raz P. Berry. This is just bananas, but any child of the 80’s who remembers Oran “Juice” Jones and his bizarre hit single “The Rain” will enjoy Glover as Raz P. Berry trying to stalk Cecily Tyson and seduce her with his Pee.

#4 Prison Job. Donald Glover, Kenan Thompson, and Chris Redd play street talking inmates who change their demeanor to take customer service calls.

#3 Courtroom. Vito’s favorite sketch of the night landed as #4 on our list. A courtroom sketch putting Donald Glover in the role of defense lawyer for the island of Jurassic Park. The park is on trial and Glover is cross-examining witnesses who watched their friends get eaten by dinosaurs. Kenan Thomson plays a very amused judge.

#2 A Kanye Place. Donald Glover, Cecily Strong, Kenan Thompson, Beck Bennett, Aidy Bryant are a group of friends hiding from some kind of weird mysterious monster. They know any sound they make could mean sudden death, but can’t help reacting to the latest Kanye news. If you’re saying to yourself, this makes no sense, you’re absolutely right. And yet it makes perfect sense. Brilliant.

#1  Dirty Talk. The absolute funniest sketch of the night and maybe the season starring Glover with our favorite newcomer, Melissa Villasenor in bed trying some dirty talk. That’s all the set up you need- this one’s all in the delivery. Melissa Villesenor’s delivery is so flawless, with such great timing, its hard to believe she’s still a newcomer.  Powerful future ahead for her, for sure.
