Emma Thompson is Katherine Newbury, the queen of late night in the upcoming indie feature film Late Night, but that doesn’t mean she’s woke. Her writers room is as cockandballs as the rest of them. She’s too old, too white, and about to lose her gig, unless she can turn it all around and make her audience adore her and she doesn’t have a lot of time to make that happen.
Enter Molly, played by the films writer, producer and star, Mindy Kaling. She’s the “splash of color” that Katherine hopes can help her turn her career around. Molly will help wake up Newbury, and we’re betting she’ll succeed.
Nisha Ganatra directs the film, which by the way scored a record breaking distribution deal at Sundance this year– $13 million for U.S. rights. Reviews from Sundance were really strong for the lets-get-woke feature. John Early, John Lithgow, Hugh Dancy, Max Casella and Ike Barenholz co-star.
The film is from Amazon Studios and opens June 7, 2019.
