Matthew Perry Gave Up a Show About Airport Aliens to Be on Friends
Before Friends, Matthew Perry was pretty broke, and prepared to take any job. And he did- he took a job on a pilot called LAX 2194, a show about baggage handlers in Los Angeles in the year 2194. “Little People” played the aliens and Matthew Perry had to sort out their luggage. When the Friends script started circulating, Matthew Perry knew he would be perfect for it, but was locked in. The moral of the story seems to be that he almost missed a chance to be on one of the biggest sitcom hits of an entire generation, but maybe the moral is, that some show about a futuristic airport just missed its chance to be the biggest sitcom of an entire generation?
Also, we’re wondering if this really happened, or if Perry is just borrowing a little from Matt LeBlanc’s character on Episodes. LAX 2194? Pucks? Anyone?
