Louis C.K. Releases Documentary on His Website

Louis C.K. has done it again..without any pre-publicity, he’s gone and announced via his mailing list that he’s releasing a major project on his website. It doesn’t involve Louis and it’s not even comedic, but it’s something he believes in and wants to help promote and distribute.

Today C.K. sent out an email announcing that a new documentary film called “Check It” executive produced by film and collaborator Steve Buscemi, and C.K. is available and C.K. promises it’s extraordinary. He saw the film at last year’s Tribeca Film Festival. “The film knocked me right over. It was an amazing emotional ride. It was funny and moving, I learned a lot and it gave me a lot to think about after,” he wrote in the email.

Check It” is the story of a gay black street gang in DC who started their gang to protect themselves from violence and street harassment. “It’s not an easy film,” he says. “It takes on life right where the rubber hits the road. What made me love it was just the kids themselves. They are like any kids, like anyone’s children. They are trying to cope against terrible odds, they are funny and full of hope and life. Their lives are difficult and complex. They are very generous in sharing this with the filmmakers and you, if you watch the film.”

C.K. is selling the film for $5 along with an intro he created. This isn’t the first time C.K. is releasing a project on his site that he didn’t create, but it’s the first non-comedy project he’s pushing. At $5, it’s a deal, and knowing that C.K. doesn’t generally dive into selling anything, he doesn’t believe in, it’s a safe bet that this is a film worth checking out.
