Laugh Button Acquired by 800 Pound Gorilla

The big news in comedy news this week is that the Laugh Button is undergoing some changes.

On July 12 it was announced that the Laugh Button’s comedy news website has been acquired by comedy media company 800-pound Gorilla.

In 2019, The Syndicate– which included The laugh Button website– teamed up with 800 Pound Gorilla, and Robert Kelly’s Riotcast podcast network to build a leading comedy brand merging comedy editorial, record label expertise, and cutting-edge comedy podcasting.

Now that collective is spinning its three expertise off into various elements. The Laugh Button’s comedy news initiative will continue under the direction of 800 Pound Gorilla, while The Syndicate will continue to provide marketing to the comedy space running point on social campaigns for comedy brands like Gotham Comedy Club, the New York Comedy Festival, and longtime marketing agencies for industry. The Laugh Button will now be run by 800 Pound Gorilla. And 800 Pound Gorilla will also continue to offer its label services for comedians across the world.

Founder and editor-in-chief Matt Kleinschmidt will step down as editor-in-chief effective immediately. He plans to continue to run The Syndicate helping talent achieve their goals behind the scenes. “It’s a really exciting time for the brand. Since the site’s launch I’ve had the pleasure of overseeing its editorial vision, and most recently curating its record label and podcast talent. And though I will no longer be involved in the day-to-day operations/vision of the site, it’s being put into some incredibly capable hands to lead it to a new future.”

We wish Matt luck in his future endeavors and look forward to see what 800 Pound Gorilla brings to the comedy journalism space.
