Well the first night of Last Comic Standing is behind us and we’ve already seen some potential front runners. Fourteen comedians made the finals. Here are six to keep your eye on. Here’s who you should look out for as the season moves on (or life for that matter). Comics Moving On This Week: Tracy Ashley, Mark Normand, Dave Landau, Aida Rodriguez, Joe Machi, Rod Man, Dana Eagle, Nick Guerra, Erin Jackson, Mike Vecchione, Jasper Redd, Lachlan Patterson, Tyree Elaine, Jimmy Shubert.
Dave Landau –@LandauDave– Dave Landau set the tone as the first comic featured on this season and with a set that featured jokes about the aftermath of a DUI, surprisingly did well with all the judges and scored him a ticket to the next round. Landau seems like one of the more traditional comedians we’ve seen so far as far as his jokes and flow go but that should work to his advantage.
Joe Machi – @joemachi– With what may have been the set of the night, Joe Machi set the tone for the two-hour premiere with a demeanor that confused the judges but A+ material to back it up. Machi clearly had the set of the night according to the judges and audience but may still have to prove himself to a trio of judges that don’t seem like they want to stray from the ordinary.
Lachlan Patterson –@lachjaw– Nobody said that a career as a stand-up would be your regular gig right off the bat as Lachlan Patterson showed with his day job walking dogs, but the Canadian-born comic showed that he deserved to be in the competition with his dry material and confidence that earned him a ticket to the next round.
Jimmy Shubert –@JimmyShubert– No one deserves to be in the competition than veteran comic Jimmy Shubert. With a pre-taped package that highlighted his early career opening for Sam Kinison and his long list of TV appearances. Shubert brought his honed set and delivery to the show and easily moved to the semi-finals where his experience and style should move him late into the show.
Dana Eagle –@DanaEagleTweets– Eagle riffed on her looks, beliefs, and even her Bipolar disorder, earning her a ticket to the next round and praise from the judges. Eagle was born to be a comedian with a slew of flaws that she gladly embraces and uses to her advantage. It will be interesting to see how she does when straying from the self-deprecating humor.
Aida Rodriguez –@FunnyAida– Rodriguez has opened for judge Russell Peters which may have helped her move on to the next round, not that she needed it after her strong set. Rodriguez’s quick back and forth with Peter’s during the judges comments was fun to watch but quickly ended with Keenan Ivory Wayans commented that she should watch out for her looks and not use them so much. Keenan, the 80’s are over. Let the ladies shine.
