Knock Knock It’s Tig Notaro
It’s a documentary, it’s a stand up special, its a road trip across America and a rollercoaster of emotion as Tig Notaro travels around the middle of the country performing stand up with Jon Dore.
Officially, “Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro” is a documentary, following Notaro and Dore as they travel on a very unique stand up tour. Tig and Jon travel to four small towns, where they perform very personal sets for lucky fans, in their own homes. It’s up to the fans to act as producer for the performances selecting the “stage,” inviting an audience, and choosing whether to include their own warm up acts before Dore and Notaro go on in their homes.
All of the performances are as different as the venues which include someone’s basement in one case, and a John Deer tractor bed pulled into a field in another instance. Each home has its own charm, and each family took their jobs seriously, even providing some unusual green rooms along the way. Tig’s sets are great, and highly personalized with plenty of crowd work, and big laughs, and watching the fans react to Tig (and Tig react to them) is priceless.
In between the performances, you’ll get to enjoy Tig and Jon soaking up the beauty of middle America (and some of the less pretty parts). You’ll eavesdrop on their road trip conversations, sit in on some highly personal and very moving moments. There’s plenty of awkwardness, adventure, and weird energy along the way including both celebration of, and commentary on the culture that runs through small town America.
There are many ways to try to understand all the different cultures and personalities that make up America, and if you dig those experiences, you’ll undoubtably love “Knock Knock, It’s Tig Notaro” whether you’re already a Tig fan or not.
