Jovan Belcher’s Mother Files Lawsuit Against Chiefs
Remember Chiefs linebacker Jovan Belcher? Last December, he fatally shot the mother of his child, then drove to the Chiefs’ practice facility and committed suicide in the parking lot. Now his mother is using the team because she felt their failure to provide a safe work environment, denial of the risks of CTE, and it’s relation to mental-health issues led to the mental state he was in.

According to the suit, former Chiefs general manger Scott Pioli and other Chiefs officials “engaged in mental abuse to ‘motivate’” Belcher to play through his injuries. The suit alleges that Belcher was told “he was just an accident, and they would get rid of him” — treatment the suit labels “constant bullying pressure and stress” that, coupled with Belcher’s concussion issues, “caused or contributed to cause (him) to become insane.”
