Joaquin Phoenix Says Award Season is “Total, Utter Bullsh*t”

By most accounts, Joaquin Phoenix is a going to be a strong contender for several awards this coming award season for his performance in “The Master”. However, it seems that Phoenix doesn’t care about awards season. In Interview magazine, he said it is “total, utter bullshit, and I don’t want to be part of it.” He also said:

“It’s a carrot, but it’s the worst-tasting carrot I’ve ever tasted in my whole life. I don’t want this carrot. It’s totally subjective. Pitting people against each other … It’s the stupidest thing in the whole world.”

In 2005, Phoenix won a Golden Globe and was nominated for an Academy Award for his performance in “Walk the Line.” Recently, he and Philip Seymour Hoffman were both awarded the Best Actor Award at the Venice Film Festival for their performances in “The Master.”
