Jimmy JJ Walker Talks About Why People Relate to Good Times More Than Shows Like Blackish

Jimmy JJ Walker was a sitcom icon for his role on Good Times, a show that aired  41 years ago but still resonates today.  He was also an important start of the stand up scene at that time, but last night on Letterman he talked about the difference between Good Times, and shows that air today about families and race issues like Blackish.  He said people tell him all the time, “I like Blackish, but it ain’t like Good Times.  It don’t have that grit…that grind that you guys had.”  Good Times dealt with social issues that aren’t being addressed on tv now.  “You gotta have a stupid dog, and a stupid neighbor come in, and then you have to have a dog that knows more than everybody, and the dog talks and he can cook his own food and everything…”
