James Corden Will Be the First Comedian to Host the Grammys Since 2002

Comedian and Late Late Show host James Corden is quickly becoming America’s late night sweetheart, or at least he’s gaining on Jimmy Fallon for his charm, humor, repoire with guests, and his sometimes sheepish, but lovable demeanor, making him a great candidate to host any awards show. He’s also got connections with America’s hottest music acts galore thanks to a little runaway segment called Carpool Karaoke that you may have heard of.
Variety broke the news this morning, but didn’t say whether Corden will be hosting from behind the wheel of a car. “I am truly honored to be hosting The Grammys next year. It’s the biggest, most prestigious award show in music and I feel incredibly lucky to be part of such an incredible night,” Corden said in a statement.
Corden has hosted the Brit Awards multiple times, and hosted the Tony Awards this past summer. This will be a big switch up for the Grammys; the show hasn’t had a comedian host since 2002 when Jon Stewart hosted. Corden will be taking over for LL Cool J who has had a lock on hosting the Grammys for the last 5 years. Prior to LL Cool J, the Grammy ceremonies went host-less for seven years.
The 59th annual Grammy Awards will broadcast live on CBS from the Staples Center in Los Angeles on Sunday, February 12 at 8pm.
