Is Arizona Trying to Control the Internet!?
While the rest of us have been sitting back enjoying the win (at least the temporary win) againt SOPA, lawmakers in Arizona have been crafting a bill so restrictive and so offensive to expression that even the Media Coalition, a group backed by the MPAA and the RIAA are against it.
The bill is being promoted as anti-bullying but the Media Coalition says the act would make it a crime to use obscene, lewd, or profane language that is made with the intent to ‘annoy,’ ‘offend,’ ‘harass’ or ‘terrify’. Illegal to annoy? And oddly, even thought it is supposedly anti-bullying it’s not limited to communications directed at an individual. So even articles, cartoons, comedy videos, or any kind of internet communication could be prosecuted under the act.
