Instagram Can Sell Your Pictures!?

instagram ceoInstagram is updating its “Terms of Use” and some of the new terms are raising some eyebrows. Particularly the one that says “you agree that a business or other entity may pay us to display your username, likeness, photos (along with any associated metadata), and/or actions you take, in connection with paid or sponsored content or promotions, without any compensation to you.”

What!?

Even with over seven million users, could this be end of Instagram? Here is a breakdown of the new terms:

  • Instagram can share information about its users with Facebook, its parent company, as well as outside affiliates and advertisers.
  • You could star in an advertisement — without your knowledge.
  • Underage users are not exempt.
  • Ads might not be labeled as ads.
  • Want to opt out? Delete your account.

The new “Terms of Use” are set to take effect in January 16, 2013, but do not apply to photos shared prior to that date.
