Howie Mandel’s First Stand Up Special in Two Decades Coming to Showtime

Looks like Netflix isn’t the only network enticing comedy giants to get back into the hour special game.

Showtime announced on Thursday that the network will air Howie Mandel’s first comedy special in twenty years. Titled Howie Mandel Presents Howie Mandel at the Howie Mandel Comedy Club, the brand new hour will debut on January 18th at 10pm.

It’s exciting news.

Despite not producing a special or album in 20 years, Mandel has never stopped touring and performing stand up. He tirelessly performs 200 shows each year in the US and Canada, and he just bought the biggest comedy festival on the planet- Just for Laughs. He’s a comedy giant, not just in stand up, but also on television, starring in blockbuster hit series like Deal or No Deal and America’s Got Talent while continually working as an actor, voice artist, author, host and producer. Mandel is tireless and has said he just can’t sit still, so he keeps working, and so far, it’s working for him.

In the new hour, Showtime says Mandel embraces the old and welcomes the new with his return to the comedy special arena at the club that bears his name. Directed by Brian Volk-Weiss and filmed at Howie Mandel’s Comedy Club in Atlantic City, Mandel exercises his mastery of making the mundane hilarious as he tells tales about his 40-year marriage, life and career.
