Howie Mandel Says Comedy Isn’t Fun Anymore

TMZ caught up a rare sighting this week, Howie Mandel in a bad mood.
They asked him about the future of comedy, and Mandel was not very optimistic. “It’s not fun anymore,” he told them. Comedy was fun…no more, it’s not fun.”
Mandel said he watched Richard Pryor put together “Live on the Sunset Strip” every night on stage in Los Angeles. “Every night he said things that were jaw-dropping and exciting and edgy and different, and he inspired me to go out there and somewhat fearless,” Howie told reporters. “But truth be told he made it fun. Doesn’t exist anymore.”
The reason comedy isn’t fun anymore- we’re too politically correct. “You could lose an entire career just trying out one piece of material.”
This comes less than a year after Mandel and a group of investors purchased the Montreal Just for Laughs Festival. We saw Howie up there this summer and he seemed pretty enthusiastic about comedy at the time, and that was in July, just three months ago. He was still having fun.
Come on America, you’re ruining Howie Mandel. That can’t be right.
