HBO’s The Comeback Coming Back In November

We’ve been following the exciting news about HBO bringing back Lisa Kudrow’s “The Comeback” since the news first leaked back in March. Now HBO has announced that the limited run of the critically acclaimed series will return in November, and have given us a few hints of what the new season will bring.

It’s been ten years since we’ve last seen B-level tv star Valerie Cherish, and we can’t wait. In the original series, Lisa Kudrow starred as Cherish, a faded tv star who was getter a second chance on a big television series, and allowed a reality crew to follow her every move to document her “big comeback.” Of course, there was no big return to stardom, and most of what the crew documented was disappointment and humiliation– cringe comedy at its finest. The show explored the madness of television, celebrity lifestyles, aging and comedic-tragic desperation to stay a star.

And so its appropriate that “The Comeback” is now having its own come back. The six episode limited series will air in November, we don’t know much about the storyline. We know Valerie wants back in to tv, and she thinks she has it all figured out this time. Of course, she doesn’t. And HBO has revealed that in the new episodes, Valerie confronts a whole new series of problems when she finally achieves the visibility she wants. “It was almost too fun to play Valerie Cherish the first time around,” observes Lisa Kudrow. “I look forward to revisiting this resilient and ironically self-unaware character.”  The confirmed cast so far includes Lance Barber, Dan Bucatinsky, Robert Michael Morris, Laura Silverman and Damian Young.

The shows creators Lisa Kudrow and Michael Patrick King serve as executive producers along with Dan Bucatinsky.

The first season of THE COMEBACK, debuted in 2005 on HBO, and was singled out by both TIME and Entertainment Weekly as one of the ten best shows of the decade.
