Fran Lebowitz And Jimmy Fallon Have A Real Life “What About Bob?” Story
One of New York’s smartest, and funniest people sat down in Jimmy Fallon’s guest chair last night. Fran Lebowitz was a guest on the Tonight Show and turns out that Jimmy Fallon has stolen Fran Lebowitz’s dream house in true “What About Bob?” fashion. It was like listening to the Guttman’s tell their heartbreaking tale of how Dr. Leo Marvin stole their dream house, when Fran explained how Jimmy Fallon flat out stole her dream apartment.
She found the perfect apartment, spent quite a bit of time trying to figure out how to afford it and once she did, Jimmy Fallon and his family were already moving in. This led to a cold reception when Jimmy greeted her in a New York restaurant months later. As Fran put it, “Did you notice that there wasn’t like a huge smile on my face?”.
Even though Jimmy got Fran’s perfect apartment, he hasn’t quit taking from her. He also took her name for his second baby, Francis. Then, he appropriated Fran’s childhood nickname as well. Francis Fallon now goes by “Francie” just like Fran Lebowitz did as a kid. Fran asks, “Is there anything else I can do for you, Jimmy?” There was one thing she wouldn’t do for him and that was sell his joke about putting on a pair of glasses like Fran’s trademark ones.

Fallon also tried to get Fran to spill about her favorite New York places and things. She shared a few favorite New York movies– all of Martin Scorsese’s New York movies, and The Sweet Smell of Success, a few bookstores, The Strand, and The Argosy Bookstore, but stopped short of sharing any of her favorite restaurants. She’s too smart to ruin a good thing. And don’t ask Fran what to do on a Saturday in NYC. Fran doesn’t do weekends.
