Finally A Plan for All Those Useless Payphones
They’re going to be replaced by MIKE, or My Internet Kiosk Everywhere. A company, Pacific Telemanagement Services, has bought Verizon’s 16,000 plus pay phone stations in New York and will begin replacing them with these kiosks. PTS charges 50 cents for a 15-minute call and $1 for four minutes on the Internet. Users can pay with cash or a card. They’re going to show first in Penn Station in New York and then branch out to other public locations.
The only question is, will you still be able to use them as a impromptu urinal and as a place to light cigarettes on a windy day?
