Eddie Murphy Returning To SNL For The First Time in 31 Years

eddie murphy returning to SNL

Eddie Murphy is heading back to Saturday Night Live for the first time in 31 years. He hasn’t been at SNL since he hosted the show just a few months after leaving the cast in 1984. Murphy talked to Roland Martin on NewsOne Now and announced that he will be at the Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary celebration special which airs Sunday, February 15th.

He said the reason he’s never been back is because the timing has never been right but three decades is a long time not to find a date that works for everyone. One of the most successful cast members to ever come out of SNL, fans can only speculate on what Eddie Murphy’s role on the 40th Anniversary special will be. Out of 40 seasons of current and former players, Murphy has to be the biggest get for the special.

During the 3 hour long special, there would be time for Eddie Murphy to revisit some of his SNL characters, do a monologue, discuss his seasons in SNL history or revisit a very uncomfortable moment from when he had already left the show and David Spade mocked out his movie “Vampire in Brooklyn”. Spade’s “Weekend Update” piece reportedly hurt Murphy’s feelings so badly that it was part of the reason he’s never been back. Or maybe he’ll just be up there to wave.  You can put in your vote on what you think Eddie Murphy will be doing on the SNL Special below.

The Saturday Night Live 40th Anniversary Special airs Sunday, February 15th at 8pm et on NBC.
