It’s official! Saturday Night Live returns on September 28th, and at least 5 hosts have been locked in for the first half of Season 45.
Social media posts on Twitter and Instagram by the iconic sketch show brought the news that Woody Harrelson will open the new season. He hosts on September 28th. Closing out the fall season- a giant! Eddie Murphy makes his return to the Saturday Night Live stage to host the show for the first time since 1984.
And we’re excited for both- but we can’t help being most excited that Fleabag star Phoebe Waller-Bridge will host for her first time on October 5. She is one of the funniest performers on tv right now- and may already be making it into our personal halls of fame. If you’re not watching Fleabag- get on it!
David Harbor who you know and love from Stranger Things and more will host October 12th and the fabulous Kristen Stewart will helm the show November 2nd.
This will be Harrelson’s fourth time at bat. He last hosted in 2014, and before that you have to go all the way back to the Cheers day. He hosted in 1992 and 1989.
And as for Murphy–technically this is his third time hosting– he first took on the role in 1982 while still a cast-member and remains the only not ready for prime time player to host under those conditions. He returned only 8 months after leaving the show to host in 1984. And while Eddie did show up in 2015 for the big 40th Anniversary celebration, he took on a more muted demeanor than we were used to seeing from him.
Now, Eddie’s back on Netflix in the movie “Dolemite is my Name”, he drank coffee and drove around in cars with Jerry Seinfeld, and is reportedly considering (or maybe already working on) a stand up special, so everyone is hoping we’ll get to see Eddie stretch out his comedy legs a bit further.
Announced musical guests include Billie Eilish, Taylor Swift and Camila Cabello.
