Don Rickles 1970s sitcom “CPO Sharkey” which has never been released on any platform, is coming out on DVD. “CPO Sharkey: The Complete First Season” will be available on a 3 DVD set  Today,  Tuesday, May 19th, and you can win a full 3 DVD set right here on The Interrobang.

The series starred Don Rickles as Chief Petty Officer Otto Sharkey based off of Rickles’ own Navy experience. Sharkey was in charge of a crew of misfit recruits at a Naval base in San Diego. The chief spent most of his time screaming at the sailors when he wasn’t busy getting them out of trouble. The cast was made up of a diverse group of characters, including an African-American, a Pole, a Jew, an Italian-American and a Puerto Rican. This was designed to play to Don Rickles’ ethnically charged insult humor which wasn’t considered politically incorrect yet when the series premiered in 1976. It ran for two seasons on NBC.

One of the DVD extras is the time that Johnny Carson charged the “CPO Sharkey” set looking for Rickles who had broken his cigarette box on the Tonight Show the evening before. The clip was seen several times on Carson “Best Of” shows.
