Marketwatch is floating a theory that George Lucas dumped the Star Wars franchise to avoid paying the increase in taxes that will come next year when capital gains goes up. It’s also being rumored that he got out of the business because his children didn’t want to run it after he was gone, so it would be easier to split up his estate if it was just cold hard cash. Maybe the Star Wars haters had nothing to do with it, and Lucas is just a responsible father.
