Deon Cole Turns the Tables on Controversial Gap Ad

Wednesday night Conan and comedian/Conan writer Deon Cole responded to the recent Gap Ad controversy.

In the ad, a group of young girls are posing- as young girls will sometimes do, in various poses ranging from casual to gymnastic- a girl on the left side of the image is doing a handstand with her legs folded, a girl on the right is doing a standing split with one leg over her head, but its the girls in the middle who drew controversy. The white girl and the black at the ad’s center are just casually standing around except that the taller white girl has her elbow propped on the shorter black girl’s head. The ad sparked outrage with accusations that the black girl is being treated like furniture.

Last night on Conan’s show, comedian Deon Cole answered the Gap Controversy with a little table turning, announcing his new line of furniture made out of white people. Watch as he demonstrates his simple but elegant Madison coat rack, made from responsibly farmed caucasian, or his Cape Cod linen closet made from reclaimed whiteys, and finally the Monaco armchair and matching ottoman.

Cole was promoting Barbershop 3 in theaters Friday. You can also see him on the series Angie Tribeca.
