Dennis Miller Tells Seth How He Recreated Weekend Update

Dennis Miller was on Late Night with Seth Meyers last night and he’s still got it.  He still swings his trademark string of references so long that we don’t know how he has the breath to get through them.  Dennis and Seth, both former SNL Weekend Update hosts talk a bit of nostalgia and compare notes about what its like to sit behind the Update desk.   Miller shared stories about inheriting the desk from the legendary Chevy Chase, including a conversation he had with Chevy about what his new approach to the desk was going to be.  Chevy had advised him to be more post-modern, and pretend he’s an anchor, but Dennis had different ideas.  He told Chevy,  “I’m a stand up comedian, I’m going to be a complete whore for it. I’m going to try to get every laugh I can and I’m not going to do all the thing about how I’m a fake anchor. ” Instead, he put  rock and roll song on at the beginning and “come out, just ride it like a brahma bull for ten minutes and then go to the party.”

By the way, if anyone’s ever clocked Dennis’s word-per-minute, we’d love to hear it.
