Watch for David Krumholtz’s name in the credits of his new IFC comedy series, because you won’t recognize his face. Krumholtz stars in the new 8 episode IFC comedy series as his character, 76 year old Gertrude “Gigi” Rotblum who’s describe by the network as a “yenta with a heart of gold and a razor-sharp tongue”.
The comedy series that features David Krumholtz in elderly drag is about a grandmother who has lost her husband, but gained a whole new lifestyle when she finds out he had a secret bank account worth millions. Now Gigi is loose in the world experiencing everything she only dreamed about doing when she was younger.
Krumholtz originally created the character for “Weather From”, a weather forecast website. He said that Gigi has always been with him. “This character has been living inside me since birth. Friends have often accused me of acting like a grandma. It’s an absolute privilege to be bringing Gigi to life for IFC, known for their irreverent brand of comedy and willingness to explore depth of character.”
Jennifer Caserta, IFC President told The Wrap, “David has done an incredible job of inhabiting this relatable bubbe character. I hope to emulate Gigi’s unfiltered honesty and wreckless ambition when conquering my own bucket list some day.”
“Gigi’s Bucket List” goes into the production this June and IFC plans to premiere it later this year.
