David Frost (1939 -2013)

frostnixon-wre0011120471-20100309British broadcaster and journalist David Frost has died from what was believed to be a heart attack on the cruise ship “Queen Elizabeth” where he was due to give a speech. Frost’s television career was over 50 years long, but the highlight was his interviews with former President Nixon in 1977.

Frost got the interview exclusive with the President just a couple of years after Nixon resigned. After going back and forth on Watergate, Nixon threw out his now infamous line “When the President does it, that means that it is not illegal”. Frost put the pressure on Nixon after that and for the first time got him to publicly admit involvement with the scandal and finally say  “I let the American people down and I have to carry that burden with me for the rest of my life”. The interview sessions became adapted into the stage play and later the film, “Frost / Nixon”.
