Daily Riffer is calling it. Author David Foster Wallace’s universe in which the naming rights have reached the absurd has already come true. In his book Infinite Jest, naming rights to each calendar year was for sale (inevitably, to corporations); the book’s action takes place mostly during The Year of the Depend Adult Undergarment (Y.D.A.U.) I’m sure there was a time when that seemed absolutely absurd to people, but not anymore. Corporations now have naming rights or everything from Stadiums to fire hydrants.
