Dave Attell’s Sold Out Moontower Comedy Festival Debut Was a Perfectly Austin, and Perfectly Attell

Dave Attell is my favorite comedian so when I saw he was heading to Austin for a headliner show at Moontower this year I was completely thrilled! I was first introduced to Dave when I saw him on “Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist” when I was a kid. The cadence of his voice and the hilariousness of his session left a lasting impression in my mind. Then, when he got his own show on Comedy Central, “Insomniac with Dave Attell,” he moved into my heart and has been my favorite comedian ever since. Dave’s ability to write insanely funny jokes and also pull some of the funniest things I’ve ever heard out of his head, right there on the spot, made his show a fan favorite and cult classic and has earned him a huge following that has stayed loyal to him throughout his career.
Dave’s Moontower Comedy Festival debut appearance was a sold out headliner show at The Paramount Theater. It was hosted by Ian Fidance and featured comedians Sheba Mason and Louis Katz. I had never seen any of these comedians do standup before and they were all hilarious but I was especially impressed by Louis Katz who seemed ready for a headliner show of his own. Then, our super funny host Ian Fidance brought out the man of the hour and Dave Attell proceeded to do a master class and take us all to school…
I was lucky enough to see Attell close the show on “Ari Shaffir and Friends” at The Stand in New York this summer and I will be the first to admit that when he pulled out a recorder and started playing it I was a little confused. Of course he was hilarious, I mean, he’s Dave Attell… but why had he suddenly taken up playing the instrument every kid is made to learn in elementary school music class? Had the pandemic gotten to him? Was Dave becoming a prop comic? And then, I saw Dave Attell and his recorder in the context of the Moontower Comedy Festival in Austin, Texas and it all made sense! He was keeping it weird and he completely nailed it!!! This might have been the hardest I’ve ever laughed… and I will never look at baby carrots the same way ever again!
His comedy is blue but every comedian who knows him will tell you that Dave Attell has a heart of gold and that’s what keeps his fans coming back show after show all of these years! We love you, Dave and thank you for keeping Austin weird!
No one does it like Attell 🔥 Before his sold out headlining show at @ParamountAustin last night, lucky fans at The Parish got a surprise set from the one of the best!
