In the wake of President Obama’s comments on whether he would change the Redskins name if he owned the team, Redskins owner Dan Snyder wrote a letter to fans writing why he wants the name to stay and his upcoming meeting with members of the Oneida nation. “I respect the feelings of those who are offended by the team name. But I hope such individuals also try to respect what the name means, not only for all of us in the extended Washington Redskins family, but among Native Americans too.” In other words: we’re sorry we wiped out your entire nation but we just printed an entire batch of t-shirts.
