Crowds Protest Gavin McInnes Appearance at NYU Leading to Fights, Arrests

Gavin McInnes was invited to speak at NYU last night by the school’s College Republicans organization, but after large groups of protesters showed up the speech was cut short. McInnes, who hosts a daily podcast on Anthony Cumia’s Compound Media network, was sprayed in the face with pepper spray, according to reports.
“When I got pepper sprayed, your eyes hurt obviously,” McInnes said. “And then you get this sense of panic like ‘How do I know this isn’t acid?’ Oh yeah, this isn’t Islam.”
According to Washington Square News, Gavin spoke for only 20 minutes before leaving the podium, and the area. Fights broke out in the crowd and ultimately somewhere between 5 and 11 were arrested according to conflicting reports.
PIX11 reported that the protesters identified themselves as anti-fascist activists protesting a neo-Nazi.
McInnes was also one of the co-founders of VICE, but left in 2006 due to creative differences.
