Coup In Egypt Underway. Morsi No Longer President. (Updated)

Citing an unnamed presidential source, the state-run newspaper Al-Ahram reported that “the General Command of the Armed Forces told elected President Mohammed Morsi around 7 p.m. (1 p.m. ET) that he is no longer a president for the republic.” The U.S. State Department said –  the United States is not taking sides and urged all parties to come to a peaceful resolution to the “tense and fast-moving” situation.

UPDATE:

According to NBC News, former Egyptian President Mohammed Morsi and most of his Presidential team have been placed under house arrest. The head of the constitutional court, Adli Mansour, is the acting president, with new elections to be held later

UPDATE:

In Egypt, the military started arresting lead members of the Muslim Brotherhood which had supported toppled President Morsi. The Brotherhood is being accused of ordering the killing of protesters outside their headquarters during the demonstrations. Hundreds of members of the group are being sought. Also,  Morsi has refused an offer from Egypt’s armed forces to leave the country for Qatar, Turkey or Yemen, the state-run newspaper Al-Ahram reported Thursday.
