Coming Soon To The SF Bay Area, The Robin Williams Tunnel

Legislation is going forward to rename the Highway 101 tunnel in California after Robin Williams. State Assemblyman Marc Levine introduced the bill that would name the tunnel connecting San Francisco’s Golden Gate Bridge to the North Bay after the late comedian. Levine told the Press Democrat, “To name the tunnel after him is a way to remember the life he (Williams) lived and the community he came from and gave to throughout his life.”
There were plenty connections between Robin Williams and the tunnel that were cited for naming it after him. Williams would use the route to travel from his Marin County home to San Francisco to perform at clubs in the city. San Francisco was also the setting for one of Robin Williams’ biggest film hits, “Mrs. Doubtfire”. And the most obvious reason for the change to “The Robin Williams Tunnel” is the tunnel’s rainbow decorations that match the rainbow-colored suspenders that he wore on his TV sitcom, “Mork & Mindy”.
The resolution has already been approved by the Assembly’s transportation committee. Next is a full vote in the Assembly where so far there has been no opposition to it. Then it goes to the state Senate. And Governor Jerry Brown does not have to sign it for “The Robin Williams Tunnel” to become the official name.
