Comedy is Hot So Irving Azoff is Buying in

According to the New York Post, entertainment mogul Irving Azoff is about to make his largest investment yet in the comedy business. Azoff, through a joint venture with Madison Square Garden, is expected to announce Monday a 50 percent stake in Los Angeles-based Levity Entertainment.

The Levity Entertainment Group bills itself as the largest comedy booking agency in the country. Through its four divisions, “Live,” “Talent Management,” “Production,” and “Digital,” Levity Entertainment is one of the largest companies in the business of comedy. Levity produces television, represents talent (including Amy Schumer , manages online media for performers, and owns several comedy clubs and event spaces including a large interest  in the Improv properties and Levity Live.

Irving Azoff, the former boss of Live Nation, is a legend.  He’s represented The Eagles, Christina Aquilera, Van Halen, and Chelsea Handler and helped negotiate Phil Jackson’s deal with the Knicks. He has also served as CEO of Ticketmaster and Front Line Management, and serves on the boards of several communications and media companies.
