This morning news that comedian Steve Rannazzisi admitted he lied about being in the South Tower on 9/11 spread quickly across the internet. For many years, he had claimed in interviews that he worked on the 54th floor of the South Tower and narrowly escaped after the first plane hit the North Tower but he now confirms in a statement that he was never in the World Trade Center on September 11, 2001, and did not work for Merrill Lynch.

We reached out to Comedy Central this morning to ask whether Rannazzisi’s Hour Special, Breaking Dad would air as originally scheduled this Saturday September 19th. Steve Albani, who is the Senior Vice President in charge of Communications for Comedy Central said that Comedy Central has not yet made a decision regarding the special.

“We just learned about this last night,” Albani said. “We are very disappointed to hear about Steve’s misrepresentations and are currently determining how we will move forward.”

Breaking Dad was filmed this summer at Boston’s Wilbur Theater. It is Rannazzisi’s second comedy special and in it, Steve talks about the playbook strategies of parenting his young sons.
