Chris Rock Tells Dave Letterman “I Wanted the Job, Dave!”

Chris Rock was on Letterman last night promoting the release of his new movie, Top Five, and had some questions for Dave about Letterman’s retirement announcement. “Got Colbert, gave him the job huh? I sat around cleaning your cars all these years, shining your shoes, buckling up the Chiffarobe and you never gave me one offer for this job…I wanted the job, Dave!” Well Dave wants to know wny he isn’t in Top Five, so they’re even.

Rock talked about how he wrote Top 5, which he started writing during the filming of Grown Ups 2. It took 3 months, he said, to get out of it sucking. “It starts off sucking, and you keep writing until you get rid of the suck.” Spoiler alert, Jerry Seinfeld appears in a strip club in the movie. But you know who doesn’t? Dave. Sour grapes aside, Letterman gives the film his seal of approval.

Rock also talked some life, family and politics, bringing up the problems between the black community and the police, and talking about what its like raising rich kids. Both Dave and Chris have kids that don’t think they’re funny.

Top Five opens today in theaters everywhere.
