Chris Hardwick Denies Allegations of Sexual Assault

One day after former girlfriend Chloe Dykstra accused her ex-boyfriend of being a terrible boyfriend and of being guilty of sexual assault, Hardwick has responded. In a statement released on Friday night, he acknowledged that he is the unnamed ex, and admitted the pair had a less than perfect relationship but he also said that he did not at any time sexually assault her, and that he does not condone any mistreatment of women.

Hardwick confirmed that the two broke up when Dykstra was unfaithful, and claims that she was desperate to reconnect and build a relationship. “For several weeks after we broke up, she asked to get back together with me and even told me she wanted to have kids with me, ‘build a life’ with me and told me that I was ‘the one,’” he wrote, but says he could not be with someone who was unfaithful.

He claims that he was blindsided by her post, and devastated by her accusations. His statement did not address allegations that she was blacklisted from the industry following the break up, nor does he address the stringent rules Chloe claims she was required to adhere to.

“These are very serious allegations and not to be taken lightly which is why I’ve taken the day to consider how to respond,” said Hardwick. “I was heartbroken to read Chloe’s post. Our three year relationship was not perfect—we were ultimately not a good match and argued—even shouted at each other—but I loved her, and did my best to uplift and support her as a partner and companion in any way and at no time did I sexually assault her.”

“When we were living together, I found out that Chloe had cheated on me, and I ended the relationship. For several weeks after we broke up, she asked to get back together with me and even told me she wanted to have kids with me, ‘build a life’ with me and told me that I was ‘the one,’ but I did not want to be with someone who was unfaithful. I’m devastated to read that she is now accusing me of conduct that did not occur. l was blindsided by her post and always wanted the best for her. As a husband, a son, and future father, I do not condone any kind of mistreatment of women.”

Hardwick’s career has been reeling since the post went public, with his name being scrubbed from a Nerdist Industry website- a network he founded. On Twitter Chloe posted a vague nameless plea that no repercussions fall on Nerdist Industry for the behavior she attributes to Hardwick. “Before I take my break, I do want to address something re: the company he founded. As I understand it, the person has not been associated with that company for several years, and I hope that they will not suffer as a result of my essay. Be kind to them, they are good people.”

There have been media reports calling for the cancelation of the upcoming second season of “Talking With Chris Hardwick” scheduled to premiere on AMC.
