Chris Gethard shared his yearbook photo and quote on Conan Tuesday night which resulted in many giggles, much love, and a battle with Andy over the worth of Gethard’s Optimus Prime quote. But Gethard ain’t backing down. He’s proud of that quote.  Gethard, who grew up in West Orange New Jersey, told Conan, he didn’t go through puberty until he was in sophomore year in college, which fits Conan’s initial reaction to the photo- he thought Gethard was in fifth grade.

Conan asked Gethard what he was like in High School.  He said, “Most of high school I had a bowl haircut so I looked a lot like Velma from Scooby Doo. And I was just like really manic. And anything nerdy I did in the most extreme version of it. Like I was the president of the Junior Statesmen of America. . .I played gong in the marching band. ”

Of course that’s all changed. Now Gethard has his own television show, The Chris Gethard Show on the Fusion network, with gigantic celebrities knocking down his set door on a regular basis- most recently, Lena Dunham and P. Diddy.  “The good thing now is I have a tv show, and we’re in our second season and I started getting Facebook messages from people who I went to high school with,” Gethard told Conan. “I graduated high school in 1998. I’m 35 and now girls i went to high school with are starting to think I’m cool. You get a tv show and it really turns around.”

It’s not just the pretty girls, the “cool kids” are reaching out too.  “They call me bro a lot, and I’m like that is not the name you called me in high school.”

Chris also talked about the new show on Fusion and how they’ve maintained the style from his prior Public Access TV version of the show. One of Chris’ favorites, is “Sandwich Night.” Although they’ve kept the tradition of celebrating the awesomeness of the sandwich, they’ve had to alter the tradition just a bit. “It used to be you bring an ingredient, and there’s this communal thing where we all build sandwiches together.”  That is until someone brought weed baloney and a few people, including Gethard’s wife, ate the spiked sandwich.  Chris’s wife had never been high before in her life, and figured out she might be high when she started moonwalking back to their car.

The Chris Gethard Show airs Wednesday nights on Fusion. Check out our weekly reviews right here.
