Charlie McDermott from the ABC comedy “The Middle” has signed to star in the new CBS comedy pilot “Super Clyde”. McDermott plays the oldest son “Axl” on the Patricia Heaton sitcom, “The Middle”. The actors’ contracts on the series were up at the end of season. Even though “The Middle” is a successful series for ABC and was more than expected to get picked up for another season, none of the actors had been given offers yet.

According to Deadline, ABC makes a habit of waiting until May to renew their TV shows. The other broadcast networks already have commitments for 20 scripted series whereas ABC is the only network that hasn’t announce a single series return.

“Super Clyde” is from creator and showrunner Greg Garcia who did the pilot for the comedy series for CBS in 2013 with Rupert Grint from the “Harry Potter” franchise. CBS didn’t pick up the sitcom then, but now are working on retooling it.
