Charlie Chaplin Cruel and Inhumane!?
Almost 100 years later the media is still gossiping about Charlie Chaplin. The Daily Mail is exposing the silent film star’s divorce papers from 1927 in which Chaplin was described as ‘cruel and inhumane’. The divorce is from Chaplin’s second wife, Lita Grey. She was 20 years younger than him and only 16 years old when he slept with her and promised to marry her.
Allegedly, on their wedding night, Charlie Chaplin told all their friends that marriage was a better option than going to prison for having slept with her. When Lita became pregnant, Chaplin hid her away and tried to force to have a then illegal abortion. He also told her ‘This marriage won’t last long, I will make you so damn sick of me that you won’t want to live with me.’ This is has all come to light now that the media is covering the auction of Chaplin’s divorce papers.
No wonder he hated “talkies”.
