Arab American Groups: “Ban That Ad!”

It’s that time of year again, when special interest groups play BAN THAT AD!

The Super Bowl draws one of the biggest audiences all year (over 100 million viewers expected this year), and that brings out the biggest advertisers. Looks like other groups are figuring out it’s also the best time for them to grab some visibility for their causes. Arab-American groups have sharply criticized a Coca-Cola Super Bowl ad depicting an Arab walking through the desert with a camel.

“The Coke commercial for the Super Bowl is racist, portraying Arabs as backward and foolish Camel Jockeys, and they have no chance to win in the world,” Imam Ali Siddiqui, president of the Muslim Institute for Interfaith Studies, said in an email.
