Active Shooter Drill Taking Place in NJ Middle School Today

It’s being called the largest active shooter drill ever executed in New Jersey and perhaps the nation, according to West Orange Police Sgt. John Morella, and it’s taking place today. Over a dozen agencies are coming together today in a West Orange Middle School to drill responses to active shooter situations like what happened in Sandy Hook last year. Volunteers from the community will be portraying students, and staff during the drill.
In addition to the volunteers, The West Orange Police Department, police departments from Essex, Passaic, Morris and Hudson counties, the Essex County Sheriff’s Office, the Essex County Office of Emergency Management, the New Jersey State Police; the Defense at Picatinny Arsenal and the U.S. Army Engineer Research and Development Center, along with the U.S. Federal Air Marshals; the Department of Homeland Security, St. Barnabas Medical Center, Monoc and University Hospital will all be participating, and working together to provide the best possible security for school children in New Jersey and everywhere.
